Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Abby Wambach scored four first-half goals to break Mia Hamm's world record and lead the U.S. women's national team to a 5-0 rout of Korea Republic at Red Bull Arena on Thursday.

Wambach came into the match two goals shy of Hamm's record of 158 after netting a late penalty kick in USA's 4-1 defeat of Korea on Saturday.

The 33-year-old moved to within one goal of the record early on in Thursday's affair by collecting a pass from Lauren Cheney in the 11th minute, turning her defender and firing a right-footed shot past Kim Jungmi.

She equaled Hamm's tally in the 20th minute in typical Wambach fashion as she headed home close range.

Wambach broke the record 11 minutes later with another header, nodding home Megan Rapinoe's corner kick at the half-hour mark.

Not satisfied with the hat trick, Wambach struck again late in the opening period by tucking home a square pass from Alex Morgan to give the Americans a comfortable lead.

Wambach was substituted from the match in the 61st minute, exiting to a standing ovation as the new record-holder with 160 international goals in 207 appearances.

The U.S. added a fifth goal in the 67th minute when Kelley O'Hara's cross was nodded home by Cheney.
