Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - Abby Wambach scored a late penalty kick to cap a 4-1 friendly win for the United States women's national team over Korea Republic on Saturday, moving Wambach to within two goals of the all-time leader, Mia Hamm.

The Americans took a two-goal lead just seven minutes into the match when Kristie Mewis netted her first national team goal inside of three minutes, while Lauren Cheney followed up four minutes later after being set up by Tobin Heath.

Korea pulled a goal back midway through the opening half courtesy of Cho Sohyun, but the U.S. put the result away after the break.

After some good chances, Carli Lloyd scored on a long-range effort in the 57th minute that Korea goalkeeper Kim Jungmi should have handled.

The result was already secured as the match entered stoppage time, but Wambach got a chance from the penalty spot just before the final whistle, and she made no mistake, netting her 156th career goal to edge just a bit closer to Hamm's record.

These two teams will square off once more in another friendly on Thursday.
