Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Oakland Athletics continued to bolster their bullpen on Tuesday, acquiring relief pitcher Luke Gregerson from the San Diego Padres in exchange for outfielder Seth Smith.
Oakland acquired closer Jim Johnson from Baltimore late Monday night before making the move for Gregerson, who went 6-8 with a 2.71 earned run average and four saves in 73 games out of the San Diego bullpen last season.
Over five seasons, all with the Padres, the 29-year-old right-hander has gone 17-22 with a 2.88 ERA and 16 saves in 363 appearances.
Smith, 31, hit .253 with eight home runs and 40 RBI over 117 games with the A's last season.
A second-round pick of Colorado in 2004, Smith has batted .265 with 73 homers and 273 RBI in 729 games with the Rockies and A's.
