Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued a makeover of their secondary by releasing cornerback Brandon McDonald on Tuesday.

McDonald began the season as the Bucs' nickel back and appeared in all eight of the team's games while making two starts. He recorded 21 tackles, one interception and two passes defensed.

The 27-year-old signed with Tampa Bay during the offseason after playing in 13 games with Detroit in 2011. McDonald broke into the NFL as a fifth-round draft choice of Cleveland in 2007 and started 25 times for the Browns between the 2008 and 2009 campaigns.

The move comes less than a week after the Buccaneers traded starting corner Aqib Talib and a 2013 seventh-round pick to New England in exchange for a fourth-round selection in next year's draft.

To fill the available roster spot, Tampa Bay signed cornerback LeQuan Lewis from the practice squad.
