Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Bulls were hoping for the best when Derrick Rose limped off the court last Friday, but their worst fear became reality Monday morning.

The 2010-11 NBA Most Valuable Player will miss the remainder of the season after having successful surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.

Rose hurt his right knee in the Bulls' 98-95 loss last Friday in Portland. The team learned the severity of the injury the next day, but remained hopeful that the star guard could return at some point this season.

It's a sad story for the 25-year-old Memphis product, who missed all of last season while recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee.

In 10 games this season, Rose posted averages of 15.9 points, 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds.

During his MVP season, Rose averaged 25.0 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds.

The Bulls hold a 6-6 record heading into Monday night's game against the Jazz.
