Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians made it official Monday and signed outfielder David Murphy to a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed, although reports last week indicated it to be worth $12 million. The deal includes a club option for 2016.

Murphy heads to the Tribe after a seven-year stint with the Texas Rangers and owns a .275 average in 849 career games. The 32-year-old veteran has reached double digits in home runs in each of the last six seasons, though he is coming off a down year in which he hit a career-low .220 while compiling 13 homers and 45 RBI over 142 games.

A former first-round pick of Boston, Murphy broke into the majors with the Red Sox in 2006 under current Indians manager Terry Francona.

Murphy, a left-handed hitter, could be used in a platoon with Drew Stubbs in right field. Stubbs, Cleveland's primary starter at that position last season, batted just .233 with 10 homers in 2013 and particularly struggled when facing right-handed pitching.
