Allen Park, MI (Sports Network) - Titus Young's turbulent 2012 season officially came to a close on Tuesday, with the Detroit Lions placing the problematic wide receiver on injured reserve.

The Lions cited a knee injury for the move, though the team had made it clear that Young was no longer in its present plans after the second-year pro caused a disruption on the sidelines in a Nov. 18 loss to Green Bay.

Young reportedly purposely lined up in the wrong spot during that game and argued with receivers coach Shawn Jefferson afterward. Head coach Jim Schwartz sent the 2011 second-round pick home from the team facility the next day, and Young has been inactive for Detroit's past two contests.

The 23-year-old, who recorded 33 catches for 383 yards and four touchdowns over the first 10 games, was also barred from an organized team activities session by Schwartz back in the spring following a fight with teammate Louis Delmas.

Detroit also placed fellow wideout Ryan Broyles on IR Tuesday, two days after the rookie tore the ACL in his right knee in a Week 13 defeat to Indianapolis, and released veteran safety Erik Coleman.

Broyles, the Lions' second-round pick in April's draft, set a career high with 126 receiving yards on six catches against Houston on Thanksgiving Day. The Oklahoma product finishes his debut campaign with 22 receptions totaling 310 yards and two touchdowns.

Coleman started seven times at safety this season and compiled 47 tackles and one interception in 12 games. His spot will be taken by Tyrell Johnson, a former starter in Minnesota who was signed by Detroit on Tuesday.

The Lions also promoted wide receiver Kris Durham from the practice squad to the active roster to help fill the vacancies caused by Broyles and Young's absences.
