Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Released by the Texas Rangers earlier this season, right-hander Derek Lowe appears to be content not throwing another pitch in the majors, but he's not ready to concede retirement.

"No. Like I told my dad, I'll never retire," said Lowe. "If you're not playing it's pretty self-explanatory. I'm not going to go to The Hall of Fame so I don't feel like I need to have a retirement speech."

Lowe made his comments while preparing for the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf event at Edgewood Golf Course that he is playing in July 19-21,

"I was able to play 17 years (with) some pretty cool teams and win a World Series," Lowe added. "So everyone's gotta stop playing at some point and this is my time."

The 39-year-old Lowe made nine relief appearances for Texas this season, allowing 13 runs over 13 innings.

Over his 17-year career, Lowe posted a 176-157 record with a 4.03 ERA and 86 saves, playing for Seattle, Boston, the Dodgers, Atlanta, Cleveland, the Yankees and Texas. He started 377 games, but was also an effective closer for Boston, tallying 15 saves in 1999, 42 in 2000 and 24 in 2001 before posting a 21-win season in 2002 upon returning to the rotation.
