Boston, MA (Sports Network) - With the search for the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings extending into the evening, both of Friday night's major sporting events in the city have been postponed as the region remained in a lockdown.

The Red Sox were to open a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park, while the Bruins had been slated to face the Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden.

The Bruins-Penguins matchup has been tentatively rescheduled for Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. (ET) start time, though approval from the NHL is still pending. The Bruins announced that a final decision by the league will be made by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Pittsburgh had been scheduled to host Buffalo on Saturday night, but that game has now been shifted to Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

One suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was killed early Friday morning, while the second was captured in the nearby community of Watertown later that night.

The two individuals were brothers believed to be from a Russian region near Chechnya.

Police captured Dzhokhar Tsarnaev less than 24 hours after his brother, 26- year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed early Friday morning following a gun battle with police.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was trying to hide in a boat in a Watertown neighborhood. He was taken to a local hospital after being apprehended.

The crazy scene of events started late Thursday night, when the two brothers killed an MIT police officer.

The two bombing suspects then carjacked a man and were chased into Watertown. During the pursuit, the suspects threw explosive devices from the car and exchanged gunfire with police.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the suspect wearing a dark hat in photos released by the FBI on Thursday, was killed as the altercation carried into Friday morning.

The 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev managed to escape the scene, which started a manhunt for the suspect seen wearing a white baseball cap in the photos and videos released by the FBI on Thursday.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's escape led to the shutdown of the MBTA's entire network of commuter rail, bus, and subway services on Friday. Police officers performed door-to-door searches of the area.

The wild chain of events all started when two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday.
