Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins have promoted Larry Beinfest to president of baseball operations and named Michael Hill as the team's new general manager.

Beinfest was in his sixth season as Marlins GM. He began his tenure before the 2002 season and built the club that captured the franchise's second World Series title a year later.

"This promotion for Larry represents the recognition he typically prefers to deflect to the organization," said Marlins owner and CEO Jeffrey Loria. "He has helped build one World Series winner and his leadership has us on track to succeed again despite the several challenges we face."

The Marlins haven't reached the postseason since their World Series triumph four years ago and will finish with a losing record for the second straight season.

Hill becomes the third general manager in club history, He joined the club as an assistant GM in 2002 under Beinfest after working in the front offices of Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The Marlins also promoted Dan Jennings to assistant general manager. Jennings, Beinfest, Hill and assistant GM Jim Fleming all received contract extensions through at least the 2015 season.

"Michael, Jim and Dan are each certainly capable and qualified to head a baseball operations department, and there has been considerable interest by other organizations to interview them at different times," Loria added. "However, as part of this extension, they have all committed to remain with the Marlins through at least 2015 and for that I am both fortunate and genuinely excited for the future of our organization."

With a record of 59-100, the Marlins are guaranteed to finish with their worst mark since losing a franchise-record 108 games in 1998.
