Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays placed utilityman Ben Zobrist on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a dislocated left thumb.
Zobrist left Wednesday's matchup against the Mariners in the fifth inning when he jammed his hand on second base after sliding head first into the bag on a steal attempt.
Zobrist, who has served as the Rays' starting second baseman for much of the season, has batted .260 with three home runs and nine RBI over 40 games.
Tampa Bay selected the contract of infielder Cole Figueroa from Triple-A Durham to take Zobrist's roster spot.
Figueroa hit .299 with eight doubles, three homers and 16 RBI over 33 games with the Bulls this season. The 26-year-old infielder will be making his Major League debut when he appears in a game with the Rays.
