Denver, CO ( - The Houston Rockets sent backup point guard Aaron Brooks to the Denver Nuggets for swingman Jordan Hamilton before the NBA's trade deadline Thursday.

Brooks averaged 7.0 points per game this season for the Rockets, who signed him as a free agent in the offseason. He was drafted by the Rockets in the first round of the 2007 draft, then traded to the Phoenix Suns at the deadline in 2011.

Brooks signed as a free agent with the Sacramento Kings in the summer of 2012, then was released in March of 2013. Houston gobbled him back up for the stretch run, but waived him in order to free up money to sign Dwight Howard this past summer.

Houston brought him back in July on a one-year contract.

Brooks will provide point-guard depth for a Nuggets team in desperate need of it. Starter Ty Lawson is battling a rib injury, Andre Miller was traded to the Washington Wizards on Thursday and Nate Robinson is out for the season with a knee injury.

Hamilton, in his third season out of Texas, averaged 6.8 ppg this season and shot 34.9 percent from long range. His number steadily increased in all three of his seasons as his playing time went up.

Hamilton will be able to spell both James Harden and Chandler Parsons on the wings.

Neither player traded is under contract for next season.
