Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt has landed on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season, this time due to a case of appendicitis.

The move was made retroactive to July 15, one day after the veteran reliever's most recent appearance.

Betancourt also missed nearly a month with a right groin strain before returning to action on June 29. In 28 games this season, the 38-year-old has gone 2-3 with a 3.16 earned run average and converted all but one of his 16 save opportunities.

Rex Brothers, who went 3-for-3 in save chances while Betancourt was sidelined for most of June, is expected to step back into the closer role in the interim, while Colorado recalled reliever Mitchell Boggs from Double-A Tulsa to fill the roster spot.

Boggs produced a National League-best 34 holds as St. Louis' primary setup man last season, but was tagged for 20 runs (18 earned) and 21 hits over 14 2/3 innings in 18 outings this year before the Cardinals demoted him to the minors. He was acquired by the Rockies in a trade on July 9.

The 29-year-old pitched in four games for Tulsa following the swap and gave up one run on two hits over a span of six innings.
