Poulter returns to defend his title against the strongest field so far in the young 2013-14 season, as it includes 15 of the top 25 players in the world rankings. Among those players is reigning British Open champion Phil Mickelson (No. 3), U.S. Open winner Justin Rose (No. 5) and PGA Championship titleholder Jason Dufner (No. 10).

Mickelson is the highest ranking player in the field as No. 1 Tiger Woods and second-ranked Adam Scott will not be competing.

Also scheduled to compete this week will be FedExCup champion Henrik Stenson and last year's rookie of the year Jordan Spieth. Stenson's status is up in the air with a wrist injury, while Spieth will be making his first appearance in a WGC event.

Golf Channel will have late night coverage all four nights.

The PGA Tour heads back to the states next week for the McGladrey Classic in Georgia, where Tommy Gainey fired a course-record 60 during the final round last year to rally for his first career victory.

CHAMPIONS TOUR

CHARLES SCHWAB CUP CHAMPIONSHIP, TPC Harding Park, San Francisco, California -- Tha Champions Tour concludes its season this week with the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at TPC Harding Park.

Last year, Tom Lehman became the first-ever back-to-back Charles Schwab Cup winner when he cruised to a 6-stroke win over Jay Haas. Lehman entered the regular season-ending event 211 points behind leader Bernhard Langer.

Kenny Perry, who has won three events this season including consecutive majors at the Constellation Senior Players Championship and U.S. Senior Open Championship, leads the Charles Schwab Cup standings this year by 612 points over Langer.

Lehman will defend his crown this week against a field that consists of the top 30 players on the Charles Schwab Cup standings. Among that field are two members of the World Golf Hall of Fame (Fred Couples, Langer) and nine players who have won at least one major championship.

Golf Channel will have television coverage of all four rounds.
