Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy will remain sidelined indefinitely after undergoing arthrosopic surgery on his troublesome right knee Monday.

Roy returned to the NBA with the Timberwolves this season after a one-year retirement due to degeneration in both his knees, but hasn't played since Nov. 9 after injuring himself in a home win over Indiana.

The latest knee procedure will be the seventh for Roy, a three-time All-Star with the Portland Trail Blazers from 2006-11 who signed with Minnesota in July.

Roy averaged 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists during his five-year tenure with the Blazers, but hasn't had nearly the same production with his new team. In five games with the Timberwolves, the 28-year-old has averaged just 5.8 points and 4.6 assists while shooting a career-low 31.4 percent.

Monday's surgery will prevent Roy from facing his old team, as Minnesota visits Portland this coming Friday.

Roy's absence is the latest blow to a Minnesota team that's been ravaged by injuries during the early stages of this 2012-13 campaign. The Timberwolves have been without All-Star forward Kevin Love (broken hand) and starting point guard Ricky Rubio (ACL surgery) through their first nine games, while swingman Chase Budinger is sidelined until at least February after tearing the meniscus in his left knee earlier this month.

Additionally, center Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and guard J.J. Barea (foot) have missed time.
