Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Venus Williams decided to pull out of next week's Madrid Open, citing an illness.

The 32nd-ranked Williams joined fellow former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka on the Madrid sideline. Azarenka has been battling a foot injury for two months and announced her withdrawal last week.

The 33-year-old Williams reached a final in Auckland in January and captured a title in Dubai in February, but has played in only two events since.
