Tennessee Temple University Student Reports Finding Obama Related Racial Slur
just a thought
Submitted by jennifer bishop (not verified) on November 17, 2008 - 2:45pm.
so here's a thought: It is possible that all of this could have been avoided if the person who was responsible for writing that, for whatever reason they wrote it, had just come forward and admitted it? Telling the truth, no matter what it costs you in the end, is always the best option. We will one day be held responsible for every thing we have done in secret. God was very clear when He said it will be brought to light. Why not just tell the truth now? We can shift the blame around for this situation as much as we want, and try and justify ourselves as individuals and as a school, but the reality is that the responsibility for this situation lies squarely on the shoulders of one person and one person alone. One person, who, incidentally, is allowing Jesus to be misrepresented to a watching world that needs no further reason to dislike Christian or the God that we love and serve.
but it's just a thought.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 14, 2008 - 10:38am.
Sad that in this day and time these things happen. Although the term nigga is not a racist term according to the African American community. Listen to rap music and you will hear it used freely and without prejudice. I think everyone should stop using the term that would keep these things from happening.
I am not sure what has happened in this case, I trust the leadership at TTU will follow up with the story of who did this.
Why have people jumped to the conclusion that this is racially motivated?
Where is dad and granddad?

I go to TTU, and I must say
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 13, 2008 - 7:32pm.
I go to TTU, and I must say this is ridiculous. It said Obama Nigga. Not Obama is a nigger. Not Obama's a nigga. Nope, it was celebratory, written by a black individual, who by the way confessed, and was in no means being racist. How many times have you heard a black individual say, naw nigga, or come on nigga? More than I can count! But because lynn's mom and grandma wanted their 15 minutes of fame, she looks like a traitor for selling out her school. I for one think Lynn is a good person and very sweet, but this race card has got to go. Sure, there's racism in America even to this day, but that doesn't mean you have to go fabricating stories and seeking it out. Enough is enough. So stupid. Hey guess what guys: everyone isnt out to get black people. Just like everyone isn't out to get whites or mexicans or asians. There are racist people everywhere, but not everyone is like that and we shouldn't expect that from everyone. And touche to the news for searching this one out! Oh wait, they didn't!

Racial Slurs toward Obama at Tennessee Temple
Submitted by Dillon Burroughs (not verified) on November 13, 2008 - 12:43pm.
I teach at Tennessee Temple and need to share a couple of comments on this Obama racial slur debacle.
First, Tennessee Temple has made significant gains in minority student enrollment and involvement in recent years and has a clear desire to increase diversity on its campus.
As a school, it is improving in its fight against racism. If it wasn't, I would not teach there. If it stops improving, I will personally quit my job so an African American professor can teach in my place. I care that deeply about ending racism.
Second, Tennessee Temple consists of hundreds of students from many cultures and maturity levels. Sometimes students do dumb stuff like call the President-elect N*#%&.
I'll apologize for the whole school on this one and say I'm sorry it happened. Every person I know on Tennessee Temple's campus is sick that this event took place. We are students and faculty who love Jesus and love people, including Barack Obama.
Regardless of the controversy surrounding who wrote the comment, whether white, African American, or otherwise, it was highly disrespectful and inappropriate.
It ultimately doesn't matter whether a student did it to get attention or whether the offender was white or African American. The fact is that a student wrote a highly inappropriate comment about our nation's President-elect. That sucks and should not continue.
So guilty student, whoever you are, stop making yourself, your school, and Jesus look like redneck racists and Klan member wannabes by your racial slurs.
Instead, let's agree to pray for our nation's new leader and do all we can to help promote the love of Jesus.
And stop calling people Nigga because Jesus hates racism. Plus, I think He even likes good grammar.

So stupid
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 13, 2008 - 2:09am.
This whole video is so stupid and a big joke. I cannot believe someone like that would diss their school. I love it at Tennessee Temple. I hope that just because of one girl's stupid decision to go to the press as minor as that won't hinder someone to coming here. I am so angry at Lynn Jones right now for dissing our school. She has given our school a bad name and I hope she can live with this. I have 0 respect for someone like that.

Oh my gosh, is she serious? Obviously someone is desperate for attention and needs their free "10 minutes of fame". Seriously, she is a Sophomore, in college! And it was written by a fellow Negro of all people, those people call each other "nigga" all day long, it's just their culture.

Sitting in My Dorm Room
Submitted by Tennessee Temple Student (not verified) on November 12, 2008 - 8:33pm.
What a fun day! It seems like every day here we have a "shocking" event that seems newsworthy!
Well some events are definitely newsworthy all around this town but i have to disagree with this one.
Hey Channel 12 your story was pointless, a waste of time, a waste of money, a waste of breath, and a waste of a channel. I'd rather and extra 1:53 seconds of CSI:Miami
Anyway the real story is that Tennessee Temple is corrupt in many ways. With a high African American population here race seems to be not too much of an issue. Carolyn Jones stated that she got a lot of people that she really doesn't talk to to come and speak to her after they all figured that this event had happened. This is the main reason why she did it; because she didn't even have many people who talked to her in the first place.
Anyway before i decide to write a novel on Racism let me get to my final point. I have to agree with the point the guest who posted at 2:42 pm. The girl wasn't even serious about it and her mother and grandmother made her appear on television to get some attention. Notice, the grandmother had to stick her face in there to get some air time. (5 minutes of fame? try 5 minutes of shame)There was no reason to air this report because of some flamboyant student, either african-american, caucasian, hispanic, or whatever they were felt like using their daily vocabulary on her white board.
So what should Tennessee Temple do?
Expel the person who wrote this?
Now if the person is any other race besides african american i say go on and expel them. But i promise you, if an african american comes forth and admits to this "shocking" obsenity, they will not be expelled. Tennessee Temple doesn't have anything to prove to Channel 12 and they don't need to expel an african american student for them using a word that is so commonly used among the race. The best Tennessee Temple can come up with is demerits/points/community service.
My final words
The girl lives on the floor consisting of mostly girls basketball players.
Girls basketball consists of a roster including 10 african american girls, and 5 white/caucasian girls. I have heard 8 out of 10 of the african american players use the term "nigga" and "nigger," flamboyantly i must say also. And i have also heard 3/5 white/caucasian players use the term "nigga," but not in a derogative way. I might add that it was quite flamboyant also but it was chimed in among the african american players, who seemed not to have a care about the caucasian girls using that word because they were all laughing and having a wonderful time at the "scene of the crime." (WHERE IS THE DISCIPLINE COACH?) Anyway my point in the wonderful paragraph is.... the girls in the dorm write all over the other girls white boards, just as all of the males write on the bathroom stalls and carve their own names and inside jokes on the doors and wall of their friends.
The statement of "Obama Nigga," was blown out of proportion and has no need to be on the news. Way to make prospective students want to come to Tennessee Temple. Things were going good around here until this girl felt so shocked that someone used a senseless word.
Way to Be
Way to Be

To News Channel 12 - "Seriously; is this journalism?"
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 12, 2008 - 3:58pm.
Why would a News Channel really report a story without solid evidence or proof. Racial Slurs worse than this happen in campuses across the nation, and even in our city. I am in no means justifying racial slurs, but a comment on a white board in a dorm is not Shocking News or breaking news! The media should be skeptical at best when someone wants to report a situation like this without seeking to resolve the matter with the school administration. Which by the way is incorrect for that young lady to bash her own university like this without following the proper procedure.
I for one am a minority. I attended TTU and loved it. A great Christian university that in no way promotes any type of Racism. In fact, TTU currently has 3 coaches in the athletic department that are Ethnic minorities. How great is that. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that this girl fabricated the whole thing. I'm not around my alma mater, but I hate to see the news do such a horrible job of smearing the name of a great university on such a weak story. What a shame that the journalism in our country is absolutely pathetic. I hope that when the truth is finally revealed, that News Channel 12 will have the courage and run an apology story to TTU.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 12, 2008 - 2:42pm.
The sad part is that she knew who did it and it was one of her friends(who was also African-American). She was laughing about it until her parents wanted to call the news station about it. Then it was turned into something racial. Its sad that it has turned to this.

As someone with no ties to Tennessee Temple University, it is disheartening that this young lady would go against her own University. She should be ashamed of herself and the so called "christian values" she stands for. Why would she not go to the administration to solve the issue instead of the local news?

Response to racial slurs of obama
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 12, 2008 - 1:25pm.
They did it there selfs.Just so they could be in the spotlight for awhile by saying we are the targets.Come on kids so he won. There we always be people mad over it.But if you will go on about your ever day living.Instead of lying. Then it will all blow over in awhile. But its the younger group that keeps this racist shi- going. Not long ago it was the rebal flag.It was suppose to show hate.If you are in college.Get on your computer and research the flag.It was carried proudly by just as many blacks as it was whites. Some blacks asked to be buried with it if they died in battle.Do you call them racist to.You would if thats how you fill about us and that flag.Sure some use it in the wrong way.But that flag was a battle flag that was carried proudly by black and white who fought side by side as brothers. So come on put the past behind us and bring back the brother hood of our fore fathers.Of standing side by side no matter the color. One question .If you were at war and hurt. And the only one around was of the other color.Would you tell him or her to leave you the hell alone.I do not think so.So we are now living in a lost and dieing word. Why can we not stop and pick someone up who is hurting. And needs a helping hand.Color does not matter we are all the same.HUMAN!!!

Black men and women response
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 13, 2008 - 1:18pm.
Do not worry about his or hers spelling.Who ever they are they write the truth.I had a an cester who carried the flag in battle. This flag is used for alot of different things. But It was put together for a battle flag not a flag of hate. There are ones who use it now for the wrong reason.Like the kkk but that is their own choice. So do some research dig deep and you will find the truth. Not what you have heard all your life by some racist. It was carried by black and white in battle. And by the way I am from a black family. My family member carried that flag years ago with pride.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 13, 2008 - 11:54am.
Before you go and call some one a liar.Look it up do some research. And it was not a slavery flag.It was a battle flag. You made it a slavery flag not us.And there were black and white fighting side by side with this flag. And by the way you all have your x so we have the right to have ours to.Ours just has more color to it.Do your research before you speak again.Open your eyes and look past what some others use it for.And see what it really was.It is a flag.Nothing else.!!!!If we want them on our cars or trucks or houses it our right.I have them on all three. And have black friends over and nothing is ever said.Because they are grown ups.And do not live in a world of hate.Over something someone said about a flag.Grow up and do some research!!!!!!

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 12, 2008 - 1:17pm.
As a student at Temple, I am very upset about this. I think that it is very sad that people are still looking at the color of a person's skin and judging them..I would not have expected this to happen @ a school like this, well realLy at any school in general. I have came to a conclusion that racism still occurs and I don't think that it will ever go away, but I am praying that it does. I am saddened that this message was written on her door, and ashamed that people like the person who wrote the message attends this school...I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND OUT OF ALL THE STUDENT WHO SUPPORTED AND SILL SUPPORT OBAMA, WHY DID THEY HAVE TO WRITE SOMETHING ON HER DOOR...OUTRAGEOUS!!! People need to learn, "IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE , THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!"

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on November 12, 2008 - 12:46pm.
Why all of a sudden does this have to be made into a racial thing. And about obama. The spelling of the word tells you were it came from.I have alot of black friends. And thats what they call each other. So with the word nigga .I think she did it herself or was in on it to start with.Just so a few could say we are being the target. The only ones saying this is a race thing is the ones who done it.Who cares if obama is black or white.Hell there is no president going to do what they say after they are elected. All they want is the power to push us down the hole farther. And the money. So check in on this and you will find it was done by the ones who say we are targets.Because nigga is there own word.

You say that it was shocking to see what that person wrote. Well, to me it is MORE SHOCKING that someone at a CHRISTIAN university would VOTE for a democrat who stands for ABORTION AND SAME SEX MARRIAGE among other things that the school and the Christian faith both stand directly against. For some SHALLOW people, the election was about race, but it was really about what this man stands for. If anyone calls themselves a democrat, then it is assumed that he or she is in favor of the above abominations!!! Next time, run to Jesus and not the News

Tennessee Temply University Student Reports Finding Obama Relate

The writing found on the dry erase board didn't say nigger. It said Nigga which usually means it was probably wrote by a black person. If it said Nigger then that could have been taken as a racial slur. But, I would think somebody wrote that on the board not intending to be racist.
