Police arrest homicide suspect

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Ember Lee Cash Elm has been arrested for Homicide after a man’s body was found at a gas station Friday morning.

According to a court document obtained by WDEF, a police officer found a man’s body at a Kangaroo Express on Hixson Pike around 3:25 a.m.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and later identified as 28-year-old Eric Burchfield.

The document said the victim appeared to have suffered one gunshot wound to his back.

Police recovered a .380 caliber casing near his body.

The court document said messages on the victim’s cell phone revealed that Elm and Burchfield had been at odds.

It also said that when Police apprehended Elm, she escaped from her cuffs, fled from police and was captured.

At one point, she was reaching for something from a backpack so an officer kicked it out of the way.

The officer saw that .380 handgun was in the backpack that’s according to the court document.

Elm was arrested for criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a weapon.
