100 brand new computers donated to Brainerd High School

CHATTANOOGA, Tennesee(WDEF) – A successful businessman made good on a promise to help students at a local High School by donating 100 brand new laptop computers.

Darrell Freeman is the CEO and founder of Zycron; a technology firm based out of Nashville. Freeman is also a Chattanooga native who never forgot where he came from so he put his money where his mouth is by donating new computers to Brainerd High School.

“I see a lot of inspiration. I see a lot of opportunity and I see a chance for them to get a great education to make a difference and be able to live the American dream. Providing technology is one way to do that,” Freeman said.

“We were just so excited; my assistant principal and I that he actually made that come true. We’re just so excited about the opportunity for our teachers and students to use the computers that he provided for,” said Brainerd High School Principal Uras Agee.

Christian Sinclair told News 12 that he and his fellow classmates are just as excited because the new computers are one more tool aiding them in getting an education.

“We’re getting more and more stuff each day here at the school and that’s what makes the school great,” Sinclair said.

Dozens of business leaders attended a lunch presentation at Brainerd High where Freeman talked about the impact of education on the economy.

“Having kids with access to technology; learning how to code and how to develop applications is going to help this economy here in Chattanooga,” Freeman said.

Every business leader who attended the lunch presentation took a brief a tour of the school. Freeman invited the leaders to the event to inspire them to invest money and other resources in to schools like Brainerd High; something ChaTECH is already doing.

“We’re making investments with cash, mentoring and resources, so that we’re able to show students there is a big future and big pipeline for awesome jobs in tech arena in Chattanooga,” said ChaTech Executive Director Ronna-Renee Jackson.

Each classroom at Brainerd High is now equipped with two of the new laptop computers.
