$1,000 bonus for some Georgia State employees
GEORGIA (WDEF)- Good news for some state employees in Georgia.
The state has decided to give a one-time $1,000 bonus.
Georgia House Speaker David Ralston announced this at a press conference Wednesday.
The bonuses were initially for Georgia educators but, the amended $59.6 million budget will provide the payments to state employees that make less than $80,000 per year.
The bonuses will go to nearly 57,000 state employees at most state agencies.
Georgia’s District 1 Representative Mike Cameron says, “We just felt that we had to do something for the employees. They work so hard, many hours and they do so much work and a lot of it is thankless and behind the scenes. We need to recognize the contributions of the employees of the state of Georgia and try to help them and their families.”
Representative Cameron says that he does not know when employees will see the bonus.
Like so many hardworking Georgians, state employees have navigated the challenges of COVID-19 while serving our citizens. With these bonuses, we can say thank you and prioritize those who make Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family. https://t.co/NMortB0cV1
