Gov. Ron DeSantis involved in Chattanooga wreck Tuesday morning

UPDATE:

Florida Governor, and GOP Presidential candidate, Ron DeSantis was involved in a car accident Tuesday morning in Chattanooga.

DeSantis was in town for a fundraiser held by local republicans.

The crash happened a little after 8 a.m. on I-75 south, just below East Brainerd Road.

“The original accident occurred because there was an animal in the street. So, they stopped to avoid hitting the animal. Had an accident. Then the motorcade came along and stopped for the slowing traffic, and then subsequently, had a rear end collision,” CPD Assistant Chief Jerri Sutton said.

The governor continued on to his event without injuries.

One staffer did suffer a minor injury due to the crash.

A spokesperson for DeSantis says the team appreciates the prayers and well wishes.

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Presidential Candidate Ron DeSantis and his motorcade were involved in a crash on I-75 Tuesday morning enroute to an event in Chattanooga.

The Florida Governor was not hurt, but a staffer did suffer a minor injury.

The Governor’s team was driving to Chattanooga for a fundraising event that was closed to the public.

The motorcade that included four vehicles came up on some slow traffic on the interstate at East Brainerd Road.

The lead vehicle slammed on the brakes, which caused a chain reaction collision.

Campaign spokesman Bryan Griffin issued a statement on the crash and concluded “We appreciate the prayers and well wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail.”

They were able to continue on to the event.
