MEIGS COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  A 15-year-old girl is facing a first-degree murder charge following the shooting death of Richard High in Meigs County.

The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025 at a home on Gunstocker Road.

Authorities say High died from a single gunshot wound inside the residence.

The 9th District Attorney General Russell Johnson requested help from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

Both the TBI and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office worked the scene alongside investigators from the District Attorney’s office.

Following the investigation, a juvenile delinquent petition for first-degree murder was filed against the teenage suspect.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, at 1:00 p.m. in Meigs County Juvenile Court.

The District Attorney’s Office says the case will remain in juvenile court for now.

However, no decision has been made on whether the teen will be transferred to adult court.

Because of the serious nature of the case and the suspect’s age, court-ordered evaluations are expected.

Judge Casey Stokes is set to appoint an attorney for the teen and has ordered the detention hearing to be closed to the public.
