TECH BYTE – Robot Lawn Mower

As summer comes to a close, we’ve all had the frustration with the weather this year that we can’t decide if it’s trying to water our grass or torch it! Today’s tech isn’t going to help you with the weather, but it will help you with your lawn.

Tech is supposed to make our lives better, easier, and faster, right? Friends, I don’t mind telling you that cutting grass has been my least favorite activity since I was a kid. And now that we have a lawn, I’ve always tried to find a way to get that off my to do list. Well, now, a company called Mammotion has done that for me with their new all-wheel drive automatic mower!
Let me tell you, this thing is amazing. You simply choose how tall your lawn is and order the appropriate one. They have sales and tech support to help you figure out which one is right for you. Once it arrives, if you’re a big kid like me, then it’s like putting together a Lego set, which is pretty awesome all by itself.
The setup takes about 18 minutes, and it can mow up to two and a half acres of land for you. You drive it around your yard, much like a remote-control car, with their app, so you don’t need to set up a perimeter wire. It’s all wheel drive, so if your lawn is uneven or sloped like mine, it’s not a problem at all!
It has an active suspension so it can conquer uneven terrain, gopher holes, and slopes up to 38 degrees. You can even teach it to cut patterns, so if you want stripes, or you need your yard to look fancy like a baseball field or a golf course, it can do that too. They have their own app so you can manage how often and monitor in real time while it’s cutting your grass.
You can also sync it with your Google Home or Amazon Alexa. Can you imagine just speaking into existence, “Hey Google, cut the grass!” And it does! Well, now you don’t have to imagine. All you need is a Wi-Fi connection and a place outside to set it up, and you are on your way.
You probably have questions like “what if it hits an obstacle?” “What if it loses touch with its antenna?” All valid points. It’s equipped with a front bumper that is shock-absorbing, so it knows when to stop. If it loses Wi-Fi in the middle of the cut, it has 3D vision as well as night vision, so it can see what’s in front of it. And it knows to go around people and pets when it encounters them on its mission. And yes, it works day and night. It also knows when its battery’s low and will return to its charging station to power up and finish the job once it has enough power.
Mammotion has numerous models to choose from. You can look them up on their website at mammotion.com, or you can find them on social media. They’ll be excited to get you the lawnmower, just like they were excited to get it for me!
