2 dead, 1 injured in Whitfield County wreck, GSP says
WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — Two people died and one other was injured in a wreck in Whitfield County on Sunday, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
The crash happened at 4 p.m. on December 3 on Dawnville Road. This is west of Renfroe Road in Dalton.
There was only one vehicle involved in the wreck, and it was a 2006 Toyota Tundra.
According to GSP, 30-year-old Rodolfo Mayorga Rangel was driving the truck, with two passengers. They were headed eastbound on Dawnville Road.
While making a left-hand curve, the GSP said the truck spun counterclockwise and struck a metal utility pole on its passenger side.
Authorities said that Rangel was ejected through the front windshield of the truck. First responders took him to a hospital with serious injuries.
The front seat and rear seat passengers died on the scene, the GSP stated.
They have not identified the front seat passenger.
However, they said the rear seat passenger was 30-year-old Justin Matthew Arnett.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
At this time, authorities have not given the extent of Rangel’s injuries.
