2025 Veterans’ Appreciation Banquet
ROCK SPRING, Ga. (WDEF) – Today marks a special evening in Walker County, one filled with music, gratitude, and heartfelt appreciation for those who have served our nation.
Operation Outreach is once again inviting the community to come together in honor of America’s heroes.
The organization’s annual Veterans Appreciation Banquet is an opportunity to recognize the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.
John Short, a member of Rolling Thunder, shared a powerful reminder of the emotions that come with service and remembrance.
“A man once asked me why I wear sunglasses. I say, to hide the tears. It’s emotional.”
Air Force Desert Storm veteran Tina Groce said the event is a time for unity and reflection.
“This is a time when we can come together as patriots. We can assure our veterans that their service was not in vain, regardless of what their service was or what branch they served in. It’s a time to fellowship and continue supporting those who’ve given so much.”
For many, attending the banquet is more than an event, it’s a tradition of honor.
One guest, Jim Burton, Ph.D., travels three hours each year to attend.
“If you get the courage to come to the event, you’ll experience a program that opens your heart. What you’ll feel is gratitude—gratitude for being an American and for those who sacrificed so much for all of us.”
Members of Rolling Thunder will also continue their annual tradition of setting the Missing Man Table, a solemn reminder of those who never returned home.
“The Missing Man Table represents those who are missing and never came home, POWs and MIAs,” said member Andy Gideon. “It’s important to keep their memory in the forefront of the public’s mind and to remind everyone that there are still service members unaccounted for.”
The 2025 Veterans Appreciation Banquet will be held Monday, November 10, at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring. The event begins at 6 p.m., welcoming all who wish to show their respect and gratitude for America’s veterans.
