Sheriff’s Office Disposes of Old Documents, Prescription Drugs
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is working to cut back on crime.
On Saturday, deputies hosted their annual Shred-A-Thon, sponsored by News 12 and the Shred-It company.
It allows residents to turn in old, unused prescription drugs, and get their sensitive documents destroyed.
The sheriff’s office says this is one way folks can protect themselves from identity theft, and keep drugs out of the wrong hands.
“The more drugs that we can take off the streets safely, the better off that we are, and it helps reduce our crime and also medication abuse,” said Matt Lea, public information officer.
Lea says residents can dispose of any unwanted drugs at the department’s medicine drop off boxes on weekdays.
Deputies will hold another shredding event in April.
