Trees Colored Blue for Environmental Awareness
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A world-renowned artist is using his work to raise awareness about environmental issues.
On Saturday, artist Konstantin Dimopoulos – along with Public Art Chattanooga – kicked off “The Blue Trees” campaign.
Over the next few weeks, volunteers will help color trees a vibrant blue throughout the Scenic City to change the way we view trees and the outdoors.
Organizers say it’s a positive way to bring the community together to help put a stop to global deforestation.
“By enlisting others to participate in creating the artwork, it becomes an experience, and also transforms trees into a surreal environment that really makes them stand out and force people to stop and ask, ‘Why are the trees blue?’ And to try to start that conversation on the importance of trees,” said Katelyn Kirnie, director of Public Art Chattanooga.
Volunteers will start coloring trees Sunday, with various events taking place through November 15.
