27 Years of Cold Murder
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — April 24th, a day of sad emotion for the Wellington family.
Today marks 27 years since Lester Wellington was murdered.
Lester was a 29-year-old hair stylist in the late ’90s, who had big hopes and dreams that would eventually be cut short.
Janice Hammonds Wellington is Lester’s sister. She said, “He was gifted through his hands and he was a very loved person. ”
Family members say Lester’s home door was kicked in. There, he was robbed and shot in the back.
According to Lester’s sister, the family wants this case to be solved very soon.
“I would love for some closure for my mom,” Janice said. “Not just my mom, but my family period. He had a host of nieces and nephews.”
Nearly 30 years later, family members are still having to deal with the heaviness of grief, due to the mystery of this needless gun violence.
Wellington continued, “I just wanna get it back here and let people know he was loved. He was somebody.”
News 12 reached out to both the Chattanooga Police Department and the District Attorney’s office to see if there is any new information regarding the murder case of Lester Wellington. We are currently awaiting a response.
“I know we can’t bring my brother back” Wellington said. “But we can help somebody else’s family from going through what we been through.”
Janice says though Lester can’t come back, they want to help other families that are going through the same grief from gun violence.
