3 Dead After Wrong Way I-75 Southbound Crash

UPDATE: Around 10:30 a.m., troopers responded to a fatal three-vehicle crash near Dalton.

The investigation shows that a 2025 Hyundai Elantra was traveling the wrong direction on I-75 southbound after fleeing from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.

“The Elantra traveled into the southbound travel lanes, striking a 2021 GMC Canyon’s front with the front of the Elantra. After impact, the Elantra continued traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, striking the front of a JB Hunt tractor-trailer. After this impact, the Elantra struck a concrete divider, came to a final rest in the travel lanes of I-75SB, and became fully engulfed in fire”

– The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) said.

The tractor trailer became fully engulfed in flames as a result of the crash.

The three people in the Elantra died from their injuries and have not been identified.

The deceased has been released to the Whitfield County Coroner for further identification, according to GSP.

The three other motorists involved in the crash were transported to Hamilton Medical with minor injuries, GPS said.


UPDATE: Three people have been killed after a vehicle was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-75.

The vehicle subsequently struck a semi truck, according to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office.

GEORGIA — Three fatalities have been confirmed after a crash on I-75 on December 4.

All lanes of I-75 Southbound near Mile Marker 338 are shut down due to a multi vehicle crash.

3 vehicles have been confirmed to be in the crash.

There is a heavy first responder presence.

Whitfield County E-911 is asking drivers to avoid the area.
