3 people stranded in mud on Fredonia Mountain rescued
DUNLAP, Tennessee (WDEF) – A wrong turn on Fredonia Mountain left three people with a long, miserable day in the mud on Tuesday.
Three generations of the Tapley family took their 4-wheel-drive Chevy Trailblazer to look at some property for sale on Fredonia Mountain. You can read the full account with photos in the Dunlap News.
The lots were remote, and they took a wrong turn. They ended up way off-road when the rains returned.
Without having a turnaround on the dirt track, the road quickly turned to mud and they got stuck. And there was no cell service.
The two men spent a couple of hours trying to get the Trailblazer un-stuck.
Eventually they gave up and decided to walk out.
But they quickly realized that their grandmother couldn’t make it.
So the men left her to shelter in the vehicle while they hiked.
Eventually, they got far enough back to call for help.
Sequatchie deputies and EMA found the men and then headed back to the vehicle.
They had to abandon their own vehicles about a quarter of a mile from the Trailblazer.
But all three were rescued from their wet, frigid experience.
However, when the newspaper asked one of the men what he thought about the property, he told them he was no longer interested.
