500 dresses for charity stolen

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF): Several women from Crossroads Baptist Church in Whitwell are asking for your help.

The women spent countless hours sewing 5-hundred dresses when the car transporting them was stolen. Molly Layne, Crossroads Baptist Church said, "Our goal is to get the little dresses back. Or just see to it that the little dresses don’t go into a garbage dump. Whoever may have them may know where they are. Just drop them off at a church door."

Several ladies from Crossroads Baptist Church found it hard to believe that 5-hundred dresses could be stolen. Layne said, "The little dresses are priceless." The ladies got together every Monday to do crafts and came up with the idea to help little girls in the Phillipines. Kathy Holloway, Crossroads Baptist Church said, "Joy had all this fabric that she was looking for something to do with and about that time there was the bad storm in the Phillipines." The ladies decided to make the dresses and have Samaritan Purses in North Carolina ship them for free. Layne said, "Joy Trip was the coordinator. It was her dream to get these little dresses to the little girls in the Phillipines. She said we can do 5-hundred just in a little while. Well it took more than just a little while. Probably about 6 months."

However on the way to North Carolina, the vehicle they were transported in was stolen. Layne said, "I could not believe it. After all that work I could not believe it." Holloway says that if the dresses can’t be sent to the place where they were intended to go, they can still be used. Holloway said, "If they are sold at a flea market or sold at a yard sale some little girl will get them, and just maybe God will bless that little girl in a special way. Maybe she’ll feel his arms around her when she wears it."

Law enforcement agencies in North Carolina do not have any leads on the missing dresses at this time. The women say they plan on making more dresses if these ones are not returned.
