Tractor Trailer crashes close I 40 in West Tennessee

JACKSON, Tennessee (WDEF) There were dozens of crashes today in Tennessee’s ice and snow from the Mississippi River to the Cumberland Plateau.

But the worst seems to have happened near Jackson on I-40.

Several tractor trailers crashed around noon in the ice.

The interstate was closed for about 20 miles in Haywood County.

The area actually saw a string of crashes that left trucks flipped on the interstate and vehicles in the ditches.

There is no word on injuries at this point.

One driver described it this way:

“We slid and stopped here because these trucks piled up and then my wife screamed that someone hit us in the back. Went out to the side here and then another semi truck couldn’t stop- head on collision smashed us from the front. So we got hit from the back and the front. That’s my truck. My whole left leg is starting to get numb.”
