Rep. Chuck Fleischmann on school shooting solutions
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – As we’re hearing details of the incident in Dalton, gun control continues to be a topic of discussion for Congress, after the horrific school shooting in Florida.
News 12 spoke with Congressman Chuck Fleischmann on what he thinks needs to be done.
The republican says there are no simple answers.
He says mental illness and violence are both problems.
He says properly arming teachers is a possible solution.
He also says having armed school resource officers is important.
And he says we need to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of someone with mental issues.
“I think the key is we want to make sure there is sufficient fire power there to protect innocent children in schools from someone who would come in and want to do them harm.”
The Congressman says folks shouldn’t forget that the second amendment is a strong part of the bill of rights and needs to be protected.
