This couple wants back into Ukraine

Ringgold's Henry and Victoria Benach want to take humanitarian aid and gospel literature

RINGGOLD, Ga. — The war in Ukraine has continued into its fifth straight day.

Ukrainian civilians are fleeing to neighboring European countries as the conflict continues.

But only a week ago, Henry and Victoria Benach were trying to reach the front lines.

“We had a team of about five people, including my wife, and we were taking a lot humanitarian aid and gospel literature, and we were actually going to go into the city of Mariupol, which is down now, occupied by the Russians. We were gong to administer to the soldiers on the front line,” said Henry.

Victoria Benach is from Ukraine, and has family and friends still in the region.

She stressed the threat Russia poses to her home country.

“If you see on the map, country of Ukraine is so small, and a very peaceful people, but now we (are in) such danger. I mean, Ukraine (is) in such danger, try to protect their land, try to stay strong against this huge country of Russia,” said Victoria.

Henry and Victoria may not have been able to return to Ukraine last week, but going forward they still want to find a way to help.

“We feel that we should go back to the border of Ukraine, maybe Poland, Hungary, Moldova, wherever we can get in, and provide Humanitarian aid,” said Henry.

Henry and Victoria stated their heartbreak at seeing the conflict, but Victoria also expressed pride in her people.

Henry is currently raising money to continue to assist Ukrainians in need.
