Motorcycle rider killed in Ft. Oglethorpe wreck

FORT OGLETHORPE, Georgia (WDEF) One man is dead after a fatal accident in Catoosa County over the weekend.

It happened around 6:30 Sunday evening at the intersection of Cloud Springs Road and Lafayette Road.

The Fort Oglethorpe Police say a 74-year-old driver of a truck and 32-year-old motorcyclist collided at the intersection.

The Motorcyclist was traveling northbound.

The driver of the truck was trying to make a left hand turn from Southbound Lafayette Road onto Cloud Springs Road.

Ft. Oglethorpe Police say the driver was killed instantly…but there are still several unanswered questions.

Captain Gary McConathy told us “The light on Cloud springs road was red…definitely red, but we don’t know anything about turn arrow signal situation. we still have several witness of what happened that we’ll have to interview and try to pin down as to who had the right of way. but as it looks right now it’s a failed yield right of way…potentially.”

Fort Oglethrope Police say they plan to release more information on Monday.
