Deputies chase suspect who tried to enter Brainerd Tunnels the wrong way

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – A Hamilton County Super Bowl DUI team chased a suspect down Brainerd Road on Sunday Night.

 

Deputies spotted the Nissan Maxima on McCallie Avenue trying to enter the Brainerd Tunnel the wrong way.

 

They tried to stop the driver, but he fled.

 

During the chase on Brainerd Road and Lee Highway, deputies say the suspect drove recklessly, including intentionally ramming county squad cars.

 

When they finally got him stopped, he had racked up several charges.

 

33 year old Jered M. Shoemate faces DUI, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, driving on the left of the center lane and resisting arrest.

 

Plus they found an outstanding theft warrant from Sequatchie County against Shoemate.

 

The officers were working because of a RIID Grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
