Flooding sinks area roads submerging some drivers
SODDY DAISY, Tennessee (WDEF) – The weather leaves many areas with standing water making it dangerous to drive.
But it’s not just flooding, and it’s not just roads that are feeling the impact.
Watch as this truck attempts to pass through a flooded roadway in Soddy Daisy.
As it turns it sinks lower into the water and gets stuck.
“We’ve got areas of flooding all over Hamilton county. Several roads to have either slight water over the road or actually flooding in general.”
Over 50 reports of flooding, wires down, and trees down forces several road closures throughout Hamilton County.
Matt Lea with the sheriff’s office is encouraging folks to not drive down roads that are closed off or ones with water covering the road.
And, as the saying goes, turn around, don’t drown.
“Turn around, turn around and try to seek another alternate route”
“With the water rushing over the road it only takes about six inches of rain or water to actually push a car off the road given the right conditions.”
Many areas across southeast Tennessee feel the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding.
So much so that some schools had to let out early.
Those include Marion County, Hamilton County, Meigs County, Dayton City, and Rhea County Schools.
