Mocs Look For Improvement With Running Game
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Twenty one is great for black jack, but not for a football team’s rushing total. The Mocs ran for only 21 yards last weekend in their loss to sixth ranked Wofford. Now UTC is looking to improve a rushing attack that’s next-to-last in the Southern Conference.
Reporter:”When you see that stat as an offensive player is that almost kind of hard to believe. Twenty one yards rushing for a game?”
Said Mocs receiver Wil Young:”Yeah. I mean you know we pride ourselves on running the ball. Me and my team is able to run the ball. Establish the run. And then off of that, set up play-action and everything. Just. Just couldn’t get it going.”
Chattanooga only had 16 rushes against the Terriers, so is there a set amount of times Coach Arth would prefer to run it?
Said head coach Tom Arth:”I don’t know if you really even know how many runs you want to have. I think at the end of the day, you want to be consistent. You want to be consistent in your running attack. For our offense to be successful consistently, we do need to run the football. We are not a team that is built to drop back and throw it 40 or 50 times a game. I think you could probably look at our record and when we have thrown it over 40 times, it’s probably not very good.”
While the Mocs are working to improve the running game, the ultimate goal of the offense is to put points on the board regardless. Chattanooga is currently 8th in the SoCon averaging nearly 25 points a game.
Said Arth:”You really kind of design your game plan based on your players. Getting the best players the ball. I think that’s more of a factor than hey, how many runs are we going to have? How many passes? It’s more about how do we get the into the hands of our best players.”
The Mocs travel to Western Carolina Saturday at 3:30pm. The Catamounts are the top scoring team in the Southern Conference.
