Victim’s family upset murder suspect is out on bond
MARION COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A murder victim’s family is upset the suspect in their son’s death was able to bond out of the Marion County Jail.
Around Sarah Powell’s neck is a necklace containing the ashes of her stepson Bradley Powell.
“Bradley was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back he was, he had a lot of friends. He was very much loved, just overall a kind and generous person,” Powell said.
Bradley was reported missing in Chattanooga in December of 2016.
“We were obviously very concerned, but never in a million years did we think what happened, happened,” Powell said.
Bradley’s body was found in Walker County in February of 2017. Investigators believe he was killed in Marion County. Later that year in August, Cody Waggoner was charged with first degree murder in connection to Bradley’s death.
Waggoner had been in Marion County Jail, but was released on Wednesday when he made his $150,000 bond.
“We didn’t get to say goodbye to Bradley, none of us did. He was just taken from us. The fact that he is sitting at home with his family right now makes me sick,” Powell said.
Powell says Waggoner and her stepson were once best friends and worked together.
“For him to have done this makes it even worse, because he has known Bradley since they were kids. They grew up together,” she said.
She wants Waggoner’s bond revoked. She stated an online petition.
“He will get to enjoy Christmas with his family and we will go another Christmas without Bradley.”
Waggoner’s trial is scheduled to start in February.
