Political science experts weigh in on Pence’s upcoming visit to Dalton

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — Political science experts weigh in on Vice President Mike Pence’s upcoming visit in northwest Georgia to campaign for Brain Kemp, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in Georgia.

People at the Dalton Convention Center will be busy in the coming days, getting ready for Vice President Mike Pence’s visit. He is coming to rally for republican candidate for Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

Doug Phipps, the general manager, says the convention center is used to holding events like this.

“We have a little experience with the VIPs that come in to the building again we are excited our team is working on the planning even though we have little information to go on we have experience with it,” Phipps said.

They’ll do their normal preparations and then a little more.

“Then you meet with the Secret Service, the security force coordinate that with your own local PD, the fire marshal’s are involved in the capacity,” Phipps said.

David Veve, a political science lecturer at Dalton State College, was expecting this visit.

“I am not surprised by it and I think it will help his campaign what I expect the republican part is doing is looking for their base. I am not surprised they are coming to northwest Georgia, back in year’s past northwest Georgia has been very kind to the Republican Party,” Veve said.

Now people will have to see what the Democratic Party’s response will be after Vice President Pence comes to town.

“Will Barack Obama come to Georgia to help Stacey Abrams because he is the most well known Democrat out there? If the Democratic Party feels that he can help her, they most certainly will do that. Right now one of the questions is will one of the candidates get the fifty percent plus one that Georgia requires,” Veve said.

As questions linger, preparations at the convention center will soon be underway.
