McCallie Defense Coming Up ‘Big’ This Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The McCallie defense has created their own blue wave this year going into the playoffs. The Blue Tornado has pitched two shut-outs, and only two teams have scored more than fourteen points.
How good has McCallie’s defense been this season?
They’ve allowed over 200 yards of total offense in just two games.
Said head coach Ralph Potter:”We don’t really have too many weaknesses back there. Lot of experienced guys that really know what they are doing at every level on the defense.”
342 pound Cameron Stewart, and 280 pound Dre Taylor lead a stout defensive line.
Said Potter:”Those are two big boys. Together along with T.J. Mason and John Hardy. They’ve really done a good job of controlling and dominating the line of scrimmage.”
Reporter:”Can you tell if you might wear on an offense a little bit?”
Said Stewart:”Oh yes. I see it. They start talking to me. They’ll say oh man, you are big. I’m like yeah, all right. Don’t think it’s over with. Just going to keep going on all night.”
Said Taylor:”A couple of games you can kind of see them look over when we are doing warm-ups.You can see that they are kind of seeing us. Like they are big. It’s just. It’s pretty funny to see it.”
The Big Blue defense has recorded 13 turnovers in ten games.
Said Taylor:”If the turnovers come, they come. But if they don’t, we like to get three and outs and force punts. They’re just as valuable.”
Coach Potter loves having a stingy defense going into the playoffs.
Said Potter:”This team is a little bit more sturdy, and what I mean by that is, I think we can go out and play well, and we’ll have a chance. We may not be able to get it done, but I think we’ll have a chance in all the games that we play.”
Reporter:”How much fun is it to be apart of a good unit like this?”
Said Stewart:”I love these guys. I’ll say that. Just excitement. Hard work every day in practice. Have a little fun. It’s just amazing.”
