Georgia and Auburn Set to Renew Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry

Georgia faces a ranked team for the fourth week in-a-row, as they entertain Auburn.
But rankings mean little in this long running rivalry.

Georgia may own the SEC East title, but owning braggin’ rights in the Deep South’s oldest rivalry means something too.
Said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart:”Guys are fired up. There’s definitely a little more pep in your step when you are playing Auburn. Pads are poppin’.
Said Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn:”We are going to have to play well against these guys. I mean there’s no doubt. Like I said earlier, we know them well, and they know us well. We’ll see what happens.”
What we won’t see is Georgia breaking out the black jerseys, like they did in their big win over Auburn in 2007.
Said Smart:”I don’t think you need energy and enthusiasm for Auburn. If you can’t get up for Auburn, then we’ve got some other problems. We’ve got to be excited to play, and I just don’t think that’s. That’s not relevant to me. I’m not saying that we are not ever going to do it. I’m not saying that we are. It’s just really not what’s important to me.”
The Tigers may be 3-3 in the SEC, but their defense, and wizard like offensive coach still make the Dawgs nervous.
Said Dawgs defensive back J.R. Reed:”It’s tempo and their formations. They run a lot of tricky formations. A lot of shifts and motions. They get your defense thinking. Communication is going to be a big key this week.”
Reporter:”Auburn’s front seven and defensive line.”
Said Smart:”Yeah. They’re big. They’re physical. They’re quick. They’re athletic. A lot of them are going to be high draft picks. We’ve went against them before. It seems like they’ve been there forever.”
Georgia’s domination against Kentucky, including 331 yards rushing, has the Tigers on edge.
Said Malzahn:”You look at them on film. They look like a team that has already won the East. When I look at them offensively, they lead our league in rushing. They know how to run the football. Their quarterback is leading the league in completion percentage. Defensively what really stands out to me is they are playing a whole lot of defensive linemen. They keep the guys fresh.”
