WWII Vet Tells Unbelievable Story
He served with the 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne, during World War II.
Riddle adds, "In six battle zones, 4 of them invasioned."
422 days under fire.
His resume is as impressive as his memory.
Riddle adds, "Made the invasion of Sicily, Italy, around Ireland, England, Into Normandy."
Riddle’s near death experiences began when he was assigned to a glider made of plywood, wheels, and canvas.
A plane towed it using just a nylon rope.
Riddle adds, "It’s so large and it hit so hard that the wheel and the nose would come up through the floor and cut the mens’ legs off."
Riddle says he learned to pray hard and pray fast.
Riddle adds, "Yeah, you catch up on your prayer life real quick."
Riddle was, unfortunately, no stranger to death and destruction.
Riddle adds, "Only 38 were able to return to England out of 155 men in my company."
And of those men, Riddle is now the only living survivor.
His mind is as sharp as the pain he still feels when he tells his life story to other service men and women.
Riddle received two Purple Hearts during his service.
