Vols Guard Lamonte Turner Expected Back For NIT Tournament
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee coach Rick Barnes expects guard Lamonte Turner to return from a shoulder injury this week at the NIT Season Tip-Off in Brooklyn, New York.
Turner, the Southeastern Conference co-sixth man of the season last year, has missed the fifth-ranked Volunteers’ first three games after playing 15 minutes in a preseason exhibition. Barnes said Monday that Turner is practicing with the team and should play at the NIT event.
The 6-foot-2 junior averaged 10.9 points last season to rank third on the team. He shot 39.5 percent from 3-point range and led the Vols in 3-point baskets (70).
Tennessee (3-0) faces Louisville (3-0) on Wednesday in its first game at Brooklyn. The Vols will play either Kansas (3-0) or Marquette (3-1) on Friday.
