TECH BYTE: Tech Christmas Present Ideas

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — You’re running out of time to get that Christmas shopping done.

If you don’t know what to get, there are plenty of cool tech products to choose from.

From voice assistant devices to smart watches, you shouldn’t have trouble finding the perfect tech gift for your loved one this holiday season.

“There is a ton of cool technology that’s available this year,” said Nathan Roach, Best Buy.

Roach says there are tons of cell phones to choose from, but the iPhone XR and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 are popular.

“I think both of them have their advantages and disadvantages,” he said. “It just kind’ve depends on what you like, and what system. It’s very similar to comparing Microsoft Windows to an Apple platform. It just depends on the person, but both are great options.”

Apple’s AirPod headphones are another stocking stuffer idea.

“It’s completely wireless,” Roach said. “You’ve got two separate devices. You can make phone calls, listen to music. It is definitely one of the hottest items this year.”

As for the gamer in your family?

“The PS4 has been huge. Of course the Xbox One, but the Nintendo Switch still continues to be one of our biggest sellers,” Roach said. “There’s a lot of big titles coming out this holiday, and kids are really excited about it.”

Roach says even though more people are streaming online, DVDs will always be a favorite – especially for TV series and newer movies.

“A lot of people are moving to a digital platform, but there’s still a lot of people that like to have a physical copy, so they have that, and can keep it in a collection.”

And since there’s no Toys “R” Us anymore, Best Buy also sells your basic toys, like Legos and Barbies.

But Roach says they also have a lot of tech toys that are both educational, and fun.

“There’s actually a lot of learning tech toys that are out there that I think are great for kids to teach them about everything from programming to robotics, really to just inspire the younger generation to learn about technology, and hopefully pursue a field in it,” he said.

If you missed out on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, it’s not too late to save some money shopping.

Roach says Best Buy has some great deals now through Christmas.
