Lady Mocs Ready to Host Another Top Ten Team in Stanford

Chattanooga-(WDEF)  The Lady Mocs have already beaten one top ten team at home this year in Tennessee.

Now they get a shot at another monumental home victory tomorrow night, as Chattanooga hosts seventh ranked Stanford.
So how does a mid-major team like UTC get a home game with a west-coast powerhouse like Stanford and their legendary coach Tara Vanderveer?
Pretty simple.
Said UTC head coach Jim Foster,"Tara called me. Yeah, we’re really good friends, so it was easy."
The Lady Mocs marvel at Coach Foster’s connections in the basketball community.
Said forward Ka’Vonne Towns,"Sometimes he’ll just pull his phone out, and he’s like texting somebody. We’re like, who is that? He’ll say that was Charles. Charles Barkley. Oh that’s just Charles Barkley."
Doubt we’ll see Sir Charles at McKenzie Arena tomorrow, but it’s still cool that Stanford will be in the house.
Said guard Alicia Payne,"Like coach said, he loves these games. He thinks they’re fun, and we think they’re fun too. Just to be able to come out and play a big team on our home court. We’re just pretty excited to play."
Stanford already owns a win over Connecticut this season, and they’re one of the top scoring teams in the nation.
Said Payne,"They have a lot of shooters. They’re a real good shooting team. We know that we have to defend the three."
Said Towns,"Our defense is going to have to be a lot more aggressive. We’ll have to play outside the three-point line. They do have some great shooters on their team."
Said Foster,"If one of their starters is off, they’ll bring in another high school All-American to shoot. They’re very deep."
Tipoff Wednesday at McKenzie Arena is set for 6pm.
