Recovery continues of plane crash into Tennessee River

UPDATE: Hamilton County officials still have not released the name of the pilot, but they think they know who he is. Family members area at the scene.

SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hamilton County officials believe they know who the plane that crashed into the Tennessee River on Monday belongs to.

But they are not prepared to release the identity yet.

Recovery operations continued on Tuesday.

The single engine plane went down in the River just before 2 PM on Monday.

The crash scene is near Vesper Point, northeast of Soddy Daisy and across the river from Birchwood.

They have spotted wreckage from the crash and gotten an identification number of the plane.

But there is no word on the pilot or possible passengers at this point.

Rescue operations have been hampered by the current and wind.

Officials are asking boaters to avoid the area and patience, in general, on the part of the public.
