Senior Callie White Provides Leadership and Spark For Northwest Whitfield
Tunnel Hill, GA-(WDEF-TV)
The Northwest Whitfield girls basketball team went 8-2 in region play this season with just one senior on the team. Point guard Callie White. White helped the Bruins come up big, even though she’s usually the smallest player on the court.
If you miss Callie White on the court, it might be understandable.
Reporter:”How tall are you?”
Said White:”Um. 4’11, but 5-foot with shoes on. 5-foot.”
But as the old line goes…you can’t measure heart.
Said head coach Bob Williams:”Callie. She’s small in stature, but she’s huge in heart. She plays. She gives everything she has got when she’s on the court.”
So why did White decide to play basketball?
Said White:”I was a cheerleader, but I hated it. It was not for me. I just picked up basketball, and just kind of stuck it out since like first grade.”
In a way, White is kind of the Bruins cheerleader.
Said Williams:”How she hustles. I think the rest of the team feeds off of her.”
Said guard Sloan Pender:”Yeah she really thinks about the game. Even when we’re like going like we’re going crazy, and we’re out of hand, she always brings us together. She knows like what to do and helps me out as a point guard.”
White can drive opponents crazy sometimes.
Said White:”There’s been a few times where I’ve made girls cry on accident. Just from getting in there head I guess, but it’s part of it.”
She wears knee pads, so if there’s a loose ball, guess who is diving for it.
Reporter:”Every game. How many times do you think you wind up on the floor?”
Said White:”Way too many like quite a lot for no reason most of the time. I just go fot it.”
White is the heart and soul of the team.
Said Williams:”Her main job is to be a leader on the court. You know it’s hard to take her off the court because there are so many things she does besides scoring.”
Pender:”As a sophomore and watching her play, it really helps me be more confident and keeps me going.”
