School board member posts rape joke
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Hamilton County school board member is under fire, and this isn’t her first time.
Rhonda Thurman is known as someone who is heavily opinionated and not afraid to let her friends on Facebook know.
Recently Thurman posted a Facebook status indicating that she was not a fan of our current President, stating “Joe Biden saying he showed China how tuff he is, reminds of a joke I heard years ago…”
She continues on, explaining the jist of her comparison, stating, “A man and his wife were walking on the beach. A gang came along, grabbed the woman, then drew a circle in the sand and told the man to stand in the circle and not come out. They proceeded to rape the woman.”
Furthermore, she states, that the husband in the story began to laugh uncontrollably while his wife was raped.
To which, the gang members became confused and asked the man quote “Why are you laughing while we are all having our way with your wife?” the husband replied, ” While your head was turned, I stepped out of the circle three times!”
Although the said joke is essentially stating that the wrong victories and accomplishments are being celebrated, many saw that the post was quote “disgusting” and “offensive”
The Children’s advocacy center of Hamilton County stated that “Nationally sexual assault is a severely under-reported crime because of the victims’ shame, guilt, and other emotions”
Because of this, 310 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to the police.
We reached out to the Hamilton County school board for a quote and they confirmed that they were unable to make a comment on the situation.
A parent of two young girls in the Soddy Daisy/Hixson area commented on the matter saying quote, “As a Christian dad I don’t think it’s very funny to makes jokes about rape regardless of my opinion on Joe Biden. This is a large part of the reason we took our girls out of public schools in the area.”
Thurman replied to the negative comments by creating another post stating, “To all of you snowflakes and whiny liberals-there will not be an apology or resignation by me for telling a joke about Joe Biden. I know you would like to make the joke I posted to be about “gang rape”. But, anyone with half a brain, (I know this excludes woke liberals), can see it is about a man that thinks it is more courageous to step out of a circle than to protect his wife.”
She goes on to close her statement by saying, “I know some heads are going to explode. My advice to you is stay off my personal Facebook page!”
