WWTA director Mark Harrison resigning after sewer controversy

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Hamilton County WWTA Executive Director has submitted his resignation to the board effective February 13th.

Mark Harrison, who served as the WWTA Chief Engineer for two years and most recently as Executive Director.

Harrison has presided over the current efforts to expand sewage and wastewater treatment facilities into the northern part of the county.

That project near Hunter Road has been rejected by the county commission, and has stalled development and homebuilding in that area.

But none of that was mentioned in a WWTA release on his resignation letter.

WWTA Board Chair Mike Moon said, “Being the Executive Director of the Hamilton County Water Wastewater Treatment Authority is extremely stressful as daily challenges are addressed along with long-term concerns that will shape the growth of Hamilton County for generations to come.  Mark is to be commended for his dedication to the organization and the county as a whole.  We are grateful for his leadership and look forward to the future.”

No successor has been named.
